What's cooking at EatThis.?

Get a taste of 2023 and 2024

Let’s explore EatThis.’s journey through the highlights of 2023 and our plans for 2024. From immersive residencies to innovative projects, discover our commitment to sustainable food production and innovation.

Residency program

In 2023, with the generous support of the provincial government of South-Holland, EatThis. expanded its In Residency program.

We organized various 3-day residencies. A diverse array of participants, including international influencers, professors, inventors, journalists, comedians, and corporate anthropologists, immersed themselves in the dynamic world of modern food production in the Netherlands.  As we journey into 2024, we remain committed to these immersive explorations and welcome any new recommendations for program participants. Explore more details on our In Residency program.

Hungry EcoCities

The EU S+T+ARTS project Hungry EcoCities made significant strides last year. It fosters collaboration among science, technology, and the arts to innovate digital solutions for a sustainable agri-food system. Bringing together studios, universities, growers, and artists, the project explores new ideas. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role.

Presently, three artists are developing prototypes for unveiling May 2024. Moreover, a 2nd Open Call invites European SMEs to collaborate with designers and innovators to address industry challenges.

System Change Leaders Week

A defining moment in 2023 was the System Change Leaders Week, where 25 international horticultural entrepreneurs journeyed to Costa Rica in September. Amidst its breathtaking landscapes, we delved into a profound exploration, witnessing firsthand the potential for systemic change. Our backdrop encompassed not only the lush tropical beauty but also the visionary presence of Álvaro Umaña, the catalyst behind this inspiring transformation. His insights enriched our discussions, sparking our shared hunger for connection and commitment to positive change. Check out our recap of the System Change Leaders Week 2023 here.

Looking ahead to 2024, we are excited to organize another Future Leaders Week, building on the success of 2022, when we invited young EatThis. contributors that want to ignite change and expand their network. In 2024, we’ll explore Germany and Austria, partnering closely with Wolfgang and Florian Steiner, renowned producers of organic greenhouse vegetables.

On the menu for 2024

  • The ‘Food for Thought‘ exhibition, curated by photographer and former EatThis. resident Kadir van Lohuizen, is currently showcased at the Scheepvaart Museum in Amsterdam. Join us in June for a Meet Up at the museum, spotlighting the future of food and sustainable production systems.

  • We will host Álvaro Umaña, Costa Rica’s first minister of environment, on his visit to the Netherlands to share his transformative story with younger generations. His successful policies, including reforestation efforts, inspire new perspectives on the future of food.

  • EatThis. fosters connections and innovation. We consider ourselves creators of context, and want to facilitate and foster the right environment for a sustainable, efficient, and innovative food future of food. As food unites and nourishes us, we will host a series of informal dinners, gathering and inviting people to explore the future of food.

Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to engage with EatThis. as we continue our pursuit of a thriving #futureoffood.
